RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT – Shanghai
(with Urbis JHD)
In this large scale residential project in Pudong, Shanghai,
Staughton Architects were engaged by Urbis JHD to execute the
space planning, detailed design and presentation of 7no. residential
building types for distribution within a developed masterplan
(see below). The success of the project depended largely on an
ability to respond to ongoing change as the overall directives
of the masterplan were developed, along with an aesthetic reconciliation
of each type as dictated by the client. This was managed according
to the strategic distribution of the various types within the
masterplan, and their ability to respond to the expectations of
a particular residential market - part of which involved specific
attention to Chinese traditions concerning orientation, entry
approach and the spatial arrangement of particular household components.
